Stone Information: Nifontovite is a very rare hydrated calcium borate mineral with a monoclinic crystal system. It was named in honor of the Russian geologist Roman Vladimirovich Nifontov. The stone was first discovered in 1961 in the Novofrolovo mine in the Northern Ural Mountains of Russia. The finest and largest gem-quality crystals come from Charcas, Mexico.
